Welcome to Mount Olive!

The members and staff of Mount Olive Lutheran Church welcome you to our Web site!

Mount Olive is a confessionally Lutheran congregation of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.  We are not ashamed of our Lutheran faith, which centers all that we believe and do squarely on Christ and Him crucified for us.  Because the LORD is present for us in Word and Sacrament, we conduct worship reverently, using the best liturgical traditions of the historic Christian Church which boldly proclaim this Gospel faith.  Our congregation regularly uses services, rites and hymns from the Lutheran Service Book.

Divine worship is held each Sunday and the Lord's Supper is celebrated on the first and third Sundays of each month.  Visitors to Mount Olive on these Sundays are asked to speak with the Pastor before coming forward for communion.

News at Mount Olive!

  • Shrove Tuesday Pancakes - Tuesday, February 21, 2012, 5:00 p.m. - “Let them eat … pancakes!”  Yes, that is what Mount Olive Lutheran Church will be doing to celebrate Shrove Tuesday on February 21 at 5:00 p.m.  Shrove Tuesday (also known as Mardi Gras) is the Tuesday before the season of Lent begins.  To shrive is to confess one’s sins.  The season of Lent is a time of penitential reflection lasting from Ash Wednesday until Easter Sunday.  Centuries ago, fasting was often a part of one’s Lenten observance and people needed to quickly use any fattening meats, butter, eggs, or milk before Lent.  One very easy was to do this was to make pancakes.  Fasting during Lent is not required in the Lutheran Church.  Shrove Tuesday is simply an evening of fun and fellowship at Mount Olive.  Starting at 5:00 p.m. we will be serving plenty of pancakes, sausage, and bacon.  Those who want to can also join in pancake races and other fun activities.  Everyone is welcome to join us.  There is no cost for the meal.  All donations will support youth activities at Mount Olive.
  • Ash Wednesday and Lenten Services - Wednesdays, February 22 through March 28, 4:30 p.m and 7:00 p.m - Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22.  Lent is the time of the year when we think about our Lord’s suffering and death upon the cross.  During Lent we remember how much Jesus loves us – enough to give His life to save us from our sins.  Our Lenten services are based on the Service of Evening Prayer.  A light supper is served from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Lutherans for Life - Our featured link takes you to the Web home of Lutherans for Life (www.lutheransforlife.org).  "The focus of Lutherans For Life is two-fold.  First, we desire to say very clearly that death is not an acceptable, God-pleasing way to deal with the problems of life.  Second, we desire to say very clearly that there is a better way.  We ground both of these in the truth of God’s holy Word.  His Word defines what is not acceptable.  His Word points to a better way, He who is The Way, Jesus Christ."
